The Samsung LE401656 LCD TV seems to be a good successor of the previous models. Everything that needs to be improved has been improved. This widescreen television can actually match up to the Sony Bravias. Here’s a closer look at what this Samsung 40-inch screen can offer.
What makes this model spectacular?
First, you’ll notice a decent shadow detail and deeper black levels. The video and film mode are very good. Additionally, you can customize settings because of the broad set of controls for picture adjustment. Included in the menu are the controls for the white balance and color management system.
There is the 100Hz Motion Plus technology that reduces motion blur. It seems to be a good screen for gamers as it displays 1080p/24 video signal from a Sony PS3 without showing any judder. Connectivity is not an issue because it is equipped with 4 HDMI 1.3 input and a USB port. And there is the additional swivel type table-top stand so you can set-up your television viewing system right away.
Moreover, there is the ‘Just Scan’ function that allows 1:1 pixel mapping at an extraordinary detail. Settings can also be saved separately for every input. This model also accepts and displays 1920×1080 video signals in progressive format over VGA.
So, is this a perfect LCD TV model?
Not quite, however. There seems to be a minor flaw in the Ultra Clear Panel’s shiny appearance as it reflects ambient light thus causing glare. Very precise gamers may notice mild input lag as well. They may also see some clouding and unevenness in the backlight. Interpolation artifacts like stutter or shimmer around moving objects may be observed as well.

The Sony HVLIRM Battery infrared Light is a great tool to use for a camcorder with poor night vision. The tool attaches to a camcorders accessory shoe, or by using the supplied accessory shoe if your camcorder does not have one, and extends night vision up to a claimed 100 feet. Indoors, the light can reach 100 feet, but the farther away the object is it will become less defined. Outdoors at night it is a different story.
The way that night vision works, is that the lights are made of infrared bulbs. The light extends in front of the camera, bounces off of objects, returns to the sensor, and the camcorder creates the picture on the screen in grey scale. When you are indoors, there are plenty of objects for the sensors to bounce the light off of, so it can reach 100 feet easily. When you are outside, often times the light extends into the area in front of you, only able to hit trees, or anything else within the 100 feet. If there is not anything within 100 feet, the screen will appear black.
This Infrared light has two ways of being powered. The first is to use two double A batteries. The second is to buy a rechargeable Sony info lithium M series battery. This type of battery can easily be found online, and in electronics stores. The two available models are the NP-QM71D or NP-QM91D battery pack. However, many stores specializing in batteries have cheaper versions of the same batteries that last just as long, if not longer. On the side of the light, there is a switch with 3 commands. An off switch, and a switch to power the tool using the double A batteries power, and a switch to use power from a battery pack.
A good practice to use if you have a battery pack is to put both double A batteries, and the battery pack in. This way, if the pack runs out of power, you can simply change the switch to the battery setting, and continue filming. Another great feature is you can adjust how far the IR light reaches. Not only does this prevent extremely close objects become washed out by the brightness, but it also saves the battery life. Overall I give the Sony HVLIRM Battery Infrared Light 5 out of 5 stars. One tip I will give if you decide to buy this, is buy it on either Amazon or eBay. If you buy it direct from the manufacturer, you may be paying more than twice what you may pay elsewhere in the same exact condition.

This large diaphragm condenser microphone is used in almost every professional recording studio worldwide. The AKG C 414 B-XLS is the newest version of the 414 and comes with a lot of features.
It can record in 5 different selectable patterns and has an LED to show you which pattern it is on and has a button to cycle to the pattern you want to use. Another great feature is the 3 bass cut filter modes and 3 pre-attenuation pads which also have LEDs to indicate which is on or off.

The AKG C 414 B-XLS can also record at a very high SPL level which is why it is used on so many guitar amplifiers in the professional recording industry but can all be used to record other very loud instruments like a trumpet or a drum kit. The AKG 414 has a large dynamic range as well again adding to its versatility in recording almost anything.
A very frequent use for the AKG C 414 B-XLS is in voice over work. This microphone is very clear and transparent which makes it the ideal candidate for getting an accurate audio picture of the voice over artist’s actual voice with out any coloration. Like all microphones, when a person gets too close to the mic it creates a proximity effect. However, with voices that are low in pitch, the proximity effect gives a very nice deep sound to the voice and brings out the low tones.
Another factor in why this microphone is so good for the human voice is the bass cut filter which can roll off sound below the pitch of human hearing or below the persons vocal range. This cuts out unwanted noise from the recording and can make the difference in a good recording and a great recording.
Even though these microphones are all basically the same, they each have unique characteristics from one to the other. AKG sells matched pairs which they attempt to match up two almost identical AKG C 414 B-XLS microphones so that recording in stereo becomes picture perfect.
Overall the AKG C 414 B-XLS is my favorite microphone and gets used each and every day in my studio. They are very reliable and durable and in my many years as a recording professional I have never had one bite the dust. I would recommend one (or 2) to anyone in the audio recording field and even a used one is miles above a brand new microphone of a similar competitor.
